Following last year’s zany Nunsense, we have found the perfectly bizarre musical to continue our March Professional Theatre tradition!
Based on a story in The Weekly World News, BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL is a musical comedy / horror show about a half boy-half bat creature who is discovered in a cave near Hope Falls, West Virginia. For lack of a better solution, the local sheriff brings Bat Boy to the home of the town veterinarian, Dr. Parker, where he is eventually accepted as a member of the family and taught to act like a “normal” boy by the veterinarian’s wife, Meredith, and teenage daughter, Shelley. Bat Boy is happy with his new life, but when he naively tries to fit in with the narrow-minded people of Hope Falls, they turn on him!

Lincoln, NH — North Country Center for the Arts at Jean’s Playhouse proudly kicks off its 40th Anniversary Season Theatre offerings with the wildly entertaining cult hit BAT BOY: The Musical, running for one weekend only, March 20–22. Bold, hilarious, and gleefully over-the-top, this limited engagement marks the first musical of the milestone season and sets the tone for a year of daring and dynamic programming.
Based on the infamous Weekly World News headline, BAT BOY: The Musical tells the story of Edgar, a half-boy, half-bat creature discovered in a cave in West Virginia. Taken in by a small-town family, Edgar attempts to assimilate into human society, only to encounter fear, prejudice, religious fervor, and long-buried secrets. What unfolds is a fast-paced, genre-bending musical that swings from outrageous comedy to genuine emotional depth, blending horror spoof, social satire, and soaring pop-rock anthems into one unforgettable theatrical ride.
At first glance, a musical about a “bat boy” may sound absurd — and it is — but that is precisely its brilliance. BAT BOY is unapologetically campy, laugh-out-loud funny, and surprisingly heartfelt. Audiences who have never heard of the show may wonder how such a premise could possibly work on stage. The answer: Spectacularly! The production stars Nick Rubano as Edgar (Bat Boy), alongside (NCCA Alum and TikTok sensation) Kayla Moore as Shelley Parker, Jennifer Hope as Meredith Parker, and Kristofer Holz as Dr. Parker. The dynamic ensemble includes Jim Gocha, Scott Sweatt, Jeremiah Burch, Rachel Roth, Julia L. Williams, and Brent Hetrick, each portraying multiple roles that bring the eccentric small-town world vividly to life. The show is directed by Executive Artistic Director Joel Mercier, with music direction by Tommy Bergeron and choreography by Julia L. Williams. The creative team also includes Stage Manager Mariana Jennings, Assistant Stage Manager Erin McElrath-Templin, Scenic Designer Andrew Stuart, Costume Designer Emily Nelson, Sound Designer Tyler Soucy, and Prosthetics Designer Rachel Sargent.

How long is the show?
This show is approximately two hours and twenty minutes, which includes one 15-minute intermission.
What is this show rated?
This show is rated PG-13 due to adult humor.
What time should I arrive?
If you already have tickets, we recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before showtime. The auditorium opens 30 minutes before the performance, and our bar opens one hour prior. Lines at the bar can be long, so allow extra time if you plan to purchase food or drinks. Please also keep in mind that Main Street in Lincoln can be busy during peak vacation periods, and local restaurants may have long waits—plan accordingly.
What happens if I arrive late?
If you arrive after the performance has begun, our House Manager or Ushers will help you enter the auditorium at an appropriate time. To minimize disruptions, you may be asked to sit closer to the entrance during Act I. Please note that we do not offer discounts or refunds for late arrivals.
What happens if I purchase tickets, but then something comes up?
All ticket sales are final and non-refundable. In special cases, we may be able to exchange your tickets for another performance for a small fee. Alternatively, you may choose to convert your tickets into a donation.

NH Residents Night: On Friday nights during our Mainstage Theatre Series, New Hampshire residents can purchase $35 tickets with a valid NH license or second home owner utility bill. These tickets must be purchased in person at the Box Office and are subject to availability.
