An Exhibit of Oil Paintings by Mary Crump
Jean’s Playhouse: September through December 2017

“Meet the Artist” reception Friday, October 13, 5:30 to 7:00 PM

Mary Crump 7Mary Crump’s oil paintings of New Hampshire “capture an emotional moment—the view from a mountain top, a run down a ski slope, a flowing mountain stream.”  In this exhibit she focuses on the hidden gorges and waterfalls of the White Mountains. “Watching the rhythm of water is mesmerizing,” she says.  As she explores and experiments with color and light in a particular composition she is constantly challenged by the special effects of water on the surrounding scene.  To enhance her memory of a particular scene she often takes photographs and makes on-site watercolor sketches.

Mary is a native of New Hampshire.  After completing a Fine Arts degree at UCLA she taught school.  She has continued her studies in painting with Stoney Jacobs in Whitefield, paints with the Plein Air Painters of New Hampshire and is a member of the New Hampshire Art Association.  For the last eight years she has also taught art in a senior center in Nashua.  In the 1990s Mary taught watercolor classes in Lincoln Valley, inspiring many of her students to continue their own art studies.
