Local watercolorist Jack Richardson–well-known for his iconic scenes of the North Country–will discuss his work, which is currently on exhibit in the lobby of Jean’s Playhouse.

Fueled by a passion for drawing, Jack developed his skills over the years in interesting ways:  He doodled on any paper available from an early age and designed and painted signs professionally.  His parallel profession as a fire fighter in Weston, Massachusetts, offered opportunities to paint scenes on trucks and fire trucks.  When Jack’s wife Claire gave him a set of watercolors for Christmas, however, he fell in love with the medium.

Jack retired from firefighting in 1994 and from sign painting in 2004.  He and Claire moved full-time to their vacation condominium at Alpine Village, where he had worked summers in high school as a bell boy at the Alpine Hotel.  He now paints his favorite subjects–the rivers, lakes, mountains and historic buildings of northern New Hampshire–with a wonderful attention to composition, fine detail and the treatment of light.

Jack accepts commissions for watercolor paintings of private homes and cottages, which are still a significant portion of his work, and also sells high-quality limited-edition prints of his original paintings.

Don’t miss this opportunity to meet and talk with Jack Richardson, one of our local treasures. Please join us for the official opening of Jack Richardson’s art gallery in the lobby of Jean’s Playhouse. Attendees will have a chance to meet the artist and enjoy light hors d’oeuvres from 5-7 pm before the performance of Lend Me a Tenor.
