In September 1934 at  the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, Tito Morelli, Il Stupendo, the greatest tenor of his generation, arrives late to appear for his one-night-only performance as Otello.  When he becomes unexpectedly incapacitated, the staff scrambles to find a convincing enough replacement to fool the audience.  When the real Il Stupendo is ready and able to assume his role, events begin to unfold disastrously and hilariously.
